History

With the Burton Cup being won by Division 1 teams on a regular basis, HM Hudson & Co Ltd, a form of Worsted manufacturers, based in Pudsey who had a works table tennis team donated the HM Hudson Trophy for teams in Division 2 and below, arguing that these teams would never have a chance to win the Burton Cup.  The competition was handicapped, initially on a team basis (rather than individual) and was first competed for in the 1970/71 season.

It was replaced in the 1994/95 season by the Tony Theobould Trophy.  This was to commemorate Tony who was a Bradford league player who passed away at an early age.  The current handicapping is based on the individual players competing and is based on their previous seasons form.
